Happy Day! The End of the Second World War

A faithfully kept newspaper which I shall offer to the Military Museum along will all Dad's military bits and pieces. In the meantime, we can all rejoice with him - about six years of his young life - aged 17 - 23 in the voluntary service of his country.

Business Career - Church Employment

A man of attention to detail, as well as 'the big picture', was my Dad.

Business Career

I found this picture of the group of colleagues at Peugeot Automobile Africa.
I am annoyed that my Dad peeked through in the photograph!
I am annoyed that the photographer allowed that!
I remember him talking about some of these names.
Well... here it is for the record.

Who's Who

I knew my Dad's entry was in one of the Who's Who Books.
I found the book and also photographed the entry.

Some of Ken's Special Pens and Pencils

I remember some of these from my childhood.

I particularly love the fountain pen on the left. Unfortunately fountain pens are not usually transferrable - and certainly not from right-handed (Ken) to left-handed (me). I could get a new nib for the pen - perhaps - but... I have my own fountain pens and hardly ever use them any more.
So... the record is kept.

Some of Ken's Books

These are most of the books that came to me from the flat he lived in with his second wife, (Anna Maria Basson (previously de Wet) Powrie, when he died.

I put them in boxes so that I could see the titles.
Some have been claimed by me and my siblings.
Others have gone to the Charity Shop which runs a good bookshop.
Some are going to the Church Education System for their library or for stundents to claim if there are duplicates - or those not needed.
Some have gone to our Florida Ward Library.

An interesting and interested man our Dad...

Kenneth Oldham Powrie

I found an old leather bound photo album.

Not one of the people in the pictures did I recognise. There were names of places and mines, but not of the people in the pictures. Now why might Dad have kept this photo album?

I looked at the old, damaged album more carefully. As I opened the first page more carefully I discovered my grandfather's signature - my Dad's father. I was thrilled!

Now I know why my Dad kept the album. I still do not know who any of the people in the photographs are...

Perhaps the pictures will be of use to a mining house?
Or to Kimberley Historical society?
Any ideas?
